Reducing House Gas and Electricity Bills
So it’s go to the point where you’re finding that, no matter what you do, you’re bills just aren’t going down. You’ve tried insulating every crevice of your house possible and our windows are double-glazed, yet the electricity and gas bills are just too much. In that case, so you need a change. Well, you’re in luck. These days it’s much easier to compare gas and electricity prices than it used to be, so you won’t have to bear with the hassle of arguing with your suppliers about how much you’ve been using this month. Your only option is to see what else is out there.
It’s as easy as doing a couple Google searches, to get you on your way towards finding better – more affordable – energy suppliers. Type in ‘Compare Gas’ and a whole host of sites will make themselves known; each of which declare that they can achieve the task for you. At first, ensure that you’re not just going on a suppliers’ site, as their only desire is for you to go with them. However, every other result you’ll get on the front page will be from unbiased company who’s job it is to inform you of the varying gas prices.
All you have to do from there is insert the details of your property and it will collate the amounts you’d have to pay per month for each company. Cross-check with two or more of the comparison sites before you settle on one. Even if you’re aim is just to compare gas prices, there’s no harm in seeing if you can knock down the price of your electric a little too. The same applies, whereby you just need to type in ‘Compare electric’ and you’ll be away.
Don’t allow your suppliers to keep upping their prices, without you taking notice. There are other options out there, so before you willingly pay up for amounts you’re not comfortable with, evaluate the competition and you may just find yourself saving more than you thought you’d be able to. Once you’ve shaved off a few pounds from your gas and electric, it will probably get you thinking about the other things you can save money on too. Don’t leave it until the next bill comes in; make the change now.
Reducing Your Carbon Footprint
The hype right now is how exactly you’re able to attack your carbon footprint, to ensure that you’re not being more detrimental to the environment than others within your immediate company. After all, nobody wants the burden to fall on their shoulders, when everyone is trying their hardest to counteract Global Warming and the associated societal issues. So what measures can you personally take to reduce your carbon footprint, without having to massively go out of your way? It’s not as hard as you may assume it to be. Advice out there can be confusing, but the following will get you on track towards healthier surroundings and a more sustainable lifestyle.
- Travel. If you’re swapping a car for a bus, or a bus for a bike, you’re doing your bit for the area. Congestion is one of the biggest polluters and the more personal vehicles on the roads, the more amplified this will be. However, if you can get a bike instead of travelling by something which uses fossil fuels to run, no fossil fuels will be burnt whatsoever. If you’re even just doing it to cut costs, it’s a wise decision to make.
- Electricity. At every chance you get, switch your plugs off. There’s no use in turning your TV onto stand by if you’re not watching it, as you’ll still be wasting energy on something you’re not actually using. The more you think like this, the less likely you’ll walk out a room without switching the light off. As a result of doing this more often, you’ll save yourself a bit of money in the process too. Who can say ‘No’ to that?
- Alternative Energy. Once you’ve got over the money factor, solar panels and wind turbines are increasingly become home must-haves. They enable the user to collect energy from renewable means (the Sun and the wind, respectively) in order to generate electricity of their own. Although they aren’t enough to meet your general daily electricity needs, they’re a good way to top up and save you on money which and energy which would be wastefully given to your electricity supplier.
The Importance of Alternative Energy Sources
Times are moving on rapidly and the types of things which might have been perfectly acceptable a few years back might be utterly taboo today. Amongst the things which fall under this category concern the environment and the role that people today play in making the most of the energy we have available to us, as well as switching to renewable sources which will keep us going for years to come. So why is it important that children – both yours and everyone else’s – are taught the important of alternative energy sources.
Fossil fuels won’t be around forever. We’ve all taken it fore-granted, but within the century, they’ll all probably be no more. If our children aren’t aware of this, they’ll be as reliant on the same sources of energy as we are and have been since birth. Coal, natural gas and oil supplies are rapidly on decline, so the only way to keep the world in motion will be to find methods which produce as much energy, but can be sustained easily.
Technology hasn’t developed enough yet. Although there’s a race to find the equivalent for oil, methods such as solar power, wind power and tidal energy used en mass could be able to substitute what’s currently being used. All it takes is a few forward-thinking minds to come up with a strategy which would be cost-effective and it could become the norm in no time.
People are still scared of nuclear power. Whether it takes a certain measure to make the process safer or just making people think differently, the stigma attached to nuclear energy is restricting it from being a likely alternative energy source, which we could all use. The sooner the next generation know, the better.
School curriculums are being geared towards this teaching more and more, but that doesn’t mean we can’t reinforce the importance of using alternative energy sources over non-renewable energy. The effect of Global Warming is a strong trigger to get children thinking more about how to look after the globe, but suddenly being hit with the realisation that there’s just no oil left makes it all the more important to highlight what’s happening on in world.
